Water is life
Water is the most vital element for human beings.
The human body is mainly composed of water: 60% of the adult body mass is made of water. This figure changes according to age. A newborn baby has 75% of the mass of his body made of water, and it decreases with age to reach 50% for elderly people.
Water transports vital nutrients to all the cells of the body and flushes body wastes. Water is central to regulation of our body temperature through perspiration and is a vital part of cells.
Water for health
Every day deprivation of water can have negative effect. Water loss of only 1-2% in body weight can impair physical function. While doing intensive physical exercises water intensively evaporates from the body surface.. By the time you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated; so hydrate regularly even if you don’t feel thirsty. While physically active, it is important to drink before, during and after exercise.
Even if we are not so fond of physical exercises, we have to drink water regularly throughout the day. Why? We eliminate large quantities of water daily, mainly as urine, but also by breathing, and perspiration. So it is important to understand that we must replace the water we have lost. The water consumption needs to be adapted according to age, climate and physical activity. When it is hot (during the summer months, in the car, etc.) or when playing sports, it is important to drink more often. During airplane travel, it is important to drink regularly because of very dry air from air conditioning.
Healthy way of life is based on hydration, balanced diet, and active way of life
